Under the Canada Summer Jobs guidelines, this opportunity is for people who are aged 15 to 30 years (inclusive) at the start of employment. This position is being funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program, a component of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Artsweek is a biennial arts festival produced and presented by the Electric City Culture Council (EC3) in Peterborough, Ontario.
This job offers an opportunity to work directly with the Artsweek Festival Producer, Associate Producer and Electric City Culture Council (EC3) staff, skilled volunteers and Board members to assist in the design, and delivery of an Audience Development Campaign for the 2021 festival, including a strategic outreach campaign to marginalized communities who have specific barriers to accessing arts, culture and heritage experiences and opportunities. This project aims to create a high-profile, vibrant picture of the Artsweek 2021 Festival and change up the audience profile. The Festival brings new work by local artists to new audiences and features more than one hundred artists in 30 different events. All events are free.
Artsweek 2021’s programming and presentation takes COVID-19 into consideration.
The Audience Development Campaign includes:
- Enhancing the profile of Artsweek 2021 and increasing audience participation in the festival’s 30+ events through the development and delivery of a comprehensive marketing and communications plan.
- Developing marketing initiatives that will connect arts, culture and heritage organizations with each other, breaking down silos and building networks and bridges to broaden public inclusion in the festival at a variety of unexpected locations and cultural and social divides.
- Creating specific vehicles, cross-sector networks and opportunities that welcome the following groups into festival activities and adopting tools and approaches for effective engagement and inclusion: persons with disabilities, newcomers to Canada, Indigenous peoples, members of visual/racialized minorities, youth, LGBTQ2 community, people with social or employment barriers including literacy and numeracy and mental health challenges.
Duties will include:
- Undertaking primary research on the target groups and developing contacts and relationships with the key organizations that represent or work with them.
- Updating databases for broadcast and social media campaigns.
- Developing and delivering on-site promotional tools and peripheral marketing tools.
- Organizing media conferences (media kits, teasers, etc.) and social media campaigns including promotional contests.
- Supporting the production of video documentation and other digital promotional vehicles.
- Participating in the planning of special events to engage a broader public and promote awareness, as well as other customized strategies including workshops, tours, enhanced cultural passports, relaxed performance toolkits, etc. for target groups.
- Assisting with the design and delivery of these campaigns across multiple digital, broadcast/narrowcast and print platforms (developing plans, editing text, sourcing and selecting photos, establishing release schedules, making videos, managing databases, organizing volunteers) and documenting and archiving campaign materials in both digital and print formats.
- Planning a ‘presence’ for Artsweek and the arts, cultural and heritage community in non-traditional venues and events including agricultural fairs and culturally based community festivities (booths, ticket giveaways, talks, etc.).
Skills and Qualifications
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Familiarity with marketing tools and campaign design
- Familiarity with simple database management, Excel, Mailchimp, etc.
- Solid knowledge of using social media platforms particularly Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, as well as video and other graphic tools
- Experience with other promotion tools in marketing campaigns
- Ability to work independently or in a team
- Capacity to plan and deliver multiple projects from beginning to end
- Ability to work effectively independently, as well as in a team
- Passion for and knowledge of the arts and the Peterborough community a definite asset
- Attention to detail and strong strategic fore sighting capacity
- Capacity to work from a home office and onsite in different venues
- Driver’s licence and regular access to a vehicle and asset

$16.00 per hour
